Monkeys

For class we had to read this article about monkeys, not like the animal tho, metaphorically speaking. The "monkey" in the article represented a problem or assignment. If the monkey was on your back it is your responsibility. Not only was this comparison... odd, but the weirdest part was the mention that the manager should not have monkeys.

I agree with the article being a good manager or leader requires good organization and time management, but ultimately aren't the managers responsible for all those under them and therefore their responsibilities. I like to think of myself as a good leader, I try to set an example and do as or more than I ask of others, but now am questioning this. I take on WAY too many moneys. Does that make me a bad leader? I look at the clubs and organizations I am involved in and the Presidents and leaders. My thought is they don't take on enough. With my recent interview and the article on monkeys I am torn.

Ultimately I think taking on too many monkeys helps you grow as a leader, you realize your limits and can grow your skills. As the interview said dont be afraid to get involved, take on the monkeys. So that's what I am going to keep doing! Taking on too many monkeys, feeling crazy and stressed, but growing, and in the end when everything works out I can look back at all those crazy monkeys and hopefully laugh. :)
